The Campus Writing and Speaking Program is seeking nominations and applications for a stipend-based spring semester faculty seminar focused on incorporating writing and speaking into existing undergraduate courses. Each faculty participant will receive a stipend of $500 at the conclusion of the seminar.
Meeting time and Day: Alternate Tuesdays from 12:00-2:00 p.m. beginning Jan. 15, 2008 (6 meetings). Faculty who are already unavailable at this time may wish to register for the fall semester 2008 seminar, time TBA.
Participants will agree to meet up to six times during the spring semester, 2008; prepare a brief report of the changes they have made in their course(s) as a result of the seminar; and share their work briefly at a CWSP brown bag meeting during the 2008-2009 academic year. Meetings will offer a workshop format with a mix of expert advice, discussion, and hands-on work. The Program's graduate consultants will work with faculty participants on an ad hoc basis between meetings to assist with the creation of writing and speaking outcomes for the course(s); the revision of the existing course syllabus; the design of materials such as assignments, scoring guides, and useful handouts or web-based instructional materials for students; and the preparation of the final report.
The seminar is limited to 12 faculty participants. All applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply. If you are unable to participate or have received this because you are a department chair or administrator, please send this announcement to all interested faculty:
