Michael Carter is Associate Professor of English with a specialization in rhetoric and composition and Associate Director of the Campus Writing and Speaking Program. With a special interest in writing in the disciplines, he has worked with faculty from across NC State to identify writing and speaking outcomes for students in their majors. He is the principal investigator for two National Science Foundation grants to create and disseminate online instructional materials for helping students write more effective lab reports. He was the 2002 recipient of The Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. His scholarship has been published in a variety of journals, including College English, College Composition and Communication, and Rhetorica. He is the author of Where Writing Begins: A Postmodern Reconstruction (2003).
